about

Originally released in NZ in 1999 on seminal electronica label Kog Transmissions and then global via Universal UK in 2000, 'Six Degrees' was the first internationally released album for MdCL and the one that established him with music fans worldwide. The album was critically acclaimed and playlisted alongside the likes of St Germain, Jazzanova and Gilles Peterson. 'El Dia Perfecto' was featured on numerous compilations including Rainer Truby's Gucklich series and Brasil's official World Cup CD. 'Cosmic Echoes' has been featured on TV show themes in Europe and compilation albums. 'Day by Day' was on the multi-million selling Cafe Del Mar compilation series (remixed by DJ Spinna).

'Six Degrees' was inspired by MdCL's 1998 one year pilgrimage around the world visiting the musical hotspots of Cuba, California, the UK, France, NYC, Tokyo and more. After meeting and collaborating with Phil Asher/Restless Soul, IG Culture, Bugz in the Attic, Joe Clausell, Francois K and numerous more, 'Six Degrees' was MdCL's own artistic expression and his first time composing and producing via the MPC drum machine/sampler. It's an instrumental album apart from guest MC King Kapisi on 'Melodious Funk' and vocal touches from Cherie Mathieson ('Day by Day' and 'Por La Manana') and Teremoana Rapley ('Cosmic Echoes').

Forthcoming re-release on iTunes and other digital platforms, but for now, this is where to revisit a slice of turn-of-the-century music history.... "the album was named 'Six Degrees' with reference to the Six Degrees of Separation Theory - that everyone is inter-related by no more than six degrees of separation. When it comes to music and styles and genres, the separation is so much less. Until I made this record, I was recording acoustic jazz projects - with this album though, it was about bridging the gaps, styles and influences" - MdCL

* includes full album + two bonus tracks: 'Day by Day' (DJ Spinna remix) + 'El Dia Perfecto' (Restless Soul remix)
